A Happy Occasion

A note about my Grandparents ~

Frank and Babs were so wonderful to have in my life. I was lucky to spend time with them and to help care for them when they were ill and enjoy their company when they were well and hail.

My real grandmother passed away when I was 16, and sorry I could not know her as an adult, but I adored her! One afternoon my grandfather got up to attend to something. Babs was not in the room with us. He was standing at his walker, and he turned to me and with tears in his eyes he said, "You know, I loved Amy very much."

These letters don't diminish the love between my grandparents; nothing could do that. I miss my granddad and these letters let his voice come alive for me again. That's all. I don't have the love letters between Frank and Amy; I only have these.

Babs once said to me that she had never found love until she wed my grandfather at 72. I laughed and said I hoped it wouldn't take me that long. The thing is though, she found true love, and that is rare. For his part, I think my grandfather found true love twice in his life.

I have these letters, and it seems unfair not to share them with the rest of the family. I also don't want to ever lose them. This is the best way I know of to keep his words alive - to put them out into the world. When I read these letters, I can still hear his voice.
